Ken Matsushima, M.D., Ph.D., was born and earned his medical degree in Japan. He underwent a fellowship in microsurgical neuroanatomy under Prof. Albert L. Rhoton’s mentorship in the USA, focusing on the skull base, which included the jugular foramen, venous system, temporal bone, and brainstem. He also studied surgical management, particularly brainstem surgery, under Prof. Helmut Bertalanffy in Germany. He is currently working for the Department of Neurosurgery, Tokyo Medical University, under Prof. Michihiro Kohno in Japan. His research has been widely published, including 2 front covers of the Journal of Neurosurgery, and he has received several national and international awards such as the Young Neurosurgeon Award from the World Federation of Neurological Societies.
